Over my 20-year career I've gone broke 3 times.
And I came back to making millions every single time.
Every comeback started the same way: leaning on a Dream 100 list at my rock bottom.
When the ad budget is gone, there's no email list to mail, no JV or affiliate partners to call, and you're standing in a brand new niche with zero testimonials and zero followers... the Dream 100 is the one tool I reach for. It has never once failed to restart my income.
And it scales in both directions. A veteran with relationships and an offer can run a Dream 100 right now and pull 6 or 7 figures out of it. I've watched it happen. A brand new startup with nothing but a laptop can use the same list to land its first $10,000 in business.
The $100 Million Idea Chet Holmes Left Behind
The Dream 100 was invented by Chet Holmes.
His book The Ultimate Sales Machine has been like a second Bible to me. I re-read it, I gift it, I steal from it constantly. No other business book has directly led to more millions of dollars for me than that one.
Chet sharpened the idea selling ad space for a legal publication owned by Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett's business partner. The market had 2,200 potential advertisers. Chet analyzed the list and found that just 167 companies were buying 95% of the ad space, so he ignored the other 2,033 and courted those 167 relentlessly. He doubled that publication's ad sales three years in a row doing it.
Later he generalized the tactic into a program anyone could run, rounded to a memorable number: the Dream 100.
There is a small list of buyers and partners who could change your business overnight. It might be 100 dream clients, or 100 people who already own your audience (newsletter writers, podcast hosts, community owners). You identify them by name, you put them on a list, and you market to those specific human beings like royalty until they say yes.
That's it. That's the machine.
Why 100 Beats 1,000,000
Think about what ads and social media actually are. You're renting attention from millions of strangers and praying the right 100 people happen to scroll past your thing before your budget dies.
The Dream 100 skips the lottery and walks straight up to the right 100 people.
And the economics are stupid in your favor. In my experience a real ad test runs $3,000 a month minimum. A Dream 100 campaign costs stamps, envelopes, and the occasional gift. You can run it broke. I have run it broke, three separate times.
There's a psychology edge too. To a million strangers you're an interruption. To 100 hand-picked people getting personal attention from you every month, you become a name they know. Famous to 100 beats invisible to a million, because those 100 can actually write checks.
But you have to work the list right:
- Go lumpy. The old direct mail guys call it "lumpy mail." A flat envelope gets tossed. A package with a BUMP in it gets opened damn near every time. Send the Rubik's Cube, the little shovel ("just scratching the surface of what we could do together"), the book with your notes in the margins.
- Make gifts personal. Not swag with your logo. Something that proves you did your homework on THEM. Their favorite team, their dog's name, the podcast episode they mentioned.
- Touch them every month, forever. Chet called the required attitude "pigheaded discipline." Most people quit after touch 2. The sale shows up around touch 6 to 10.
- Be useful before you ask. Promote them first. Review their book. Send them a lead. Warm is a door you open before you knock.
The Box of Strawberries That Made Me a Believer
I first saw the full power of this in 2007, during my internship with Russell Brunson.
This is long before ClickFunnels existed. But Russ was already an internet millionaire, and everybody wanted him to promote their product. His inbox was a landfill of "hey bro, wanna promote?" emails. Delete, delete, delete.
Then one day a box shows up at the office. Luxury chocolate covered strawberries. Inside is a note about the guy's offer, asking Russell to promote it.
Russell passed the strawberries around the office and looked like a hero for an afternoon. And then his own employees started lobbying him: "You should promote that guy. Nobody's ever done something like that."
He did. The strawberry guy got his promotion, past a wall of hundreds of emails, for the price of a fruit basket.
Russ and I have both been massive promoters of the Dream 100 philosophy ever since. He wrote about it in Traffic Secrets. One box of strawberries, still paying dividends 19 years later.
The Part Everybody Quits On
So if the Dream 100 is this good, why doesn't everyone run one?
Because building the list is a GRIND. Finding the right 100 people, digging up their company, their site, their email address, copy-pasting it all into a spreadsheet one row at a time. It's an afternoon of research per handful of names, and most people tap out at number 14.
So I built an agent that removes the grind completely.
I call it the Dream 100 Agent, and it turns your normal LinkedIn browsing into a self-building Dream 100 list. You visit someone's profile, you click the extension, and 30 to 60 seconds later they're a complete row in your Google Sheet: first name, last name, company, bio, website, and email address.
The email part is the magic. LinkedIn almost never hands you an email, so the agent hunts down the prospect's website, feeds the domain to Hunter.io (an email lookup database), and comes back with an address for roughly 90% of the people you save.
You browse LinkedIn like you already do, click, and your list grows. No new tabs, no copy-paste, no $99 a month prospecting bill.
In this week's complete build you'll learn the Chrome extension trigger, the LinkedIn scrape, the Google research subagent (a pattern you'll reuse forever), the Logic gate and Hunter.io email lookup, every prompt in copy-paste format, the Google Sheet wiring, and the tracking system that makes sure all 100 actually get touched every month.
Your Dream 100 Agent should be built in 90mins.
