Here's how most rookie entrepreneurs calculate cost per lead...
Open the ad dashboard, look at spend, divide by leads, go brag in a Facebook group.
I know because I did it for years. My clients did it. The gurus teaching "how to scale" still do it. It's a "half-lie."
That math has holes in it. Big ones.
Refunds claw back revenue after you already counted it. Merchant fees skim 3-4% off every single transaction. Your web tools (the email platform, the checkout cart, the page builder, the fourteen subscriptions you forgot about) bill you every month whether you sell or not. Then there's contract labor, accounting, office costs...
I call these phantom costs.
You pay them every month, but they're invisible in every marketing report you'll ever look at.
Want to know what mine were in June?
My cost of sales line alone (merchant fees and web tools) was $6,282. Operating expenses added another $9,369 on top.
That's $15,651 in real costs, and the ad dashboard showed me exactly ZERO of it.
Now think about what that does to your decision making.
You're setting ad budgets, pricing offers, and hiring help based on a number that ignores fifteen grand a month of reality.
META or Google ad dashboard aren't lying to you on purpose.
They just weren't built to tell the truth.
Ad platforms want you feeling like a winner so you keep the card on file. Your P&L has no such agenda.
And this is where it gets interesting for us marketers...
Knowing your TRUE numbers used to be expensive.
A report that merges your transactions, your leads, and your P&L into one clean monthly picture required a bookkeeper, a fractional CFO, and a designer.
Agencies charge $500 to $2,000 for exactly that deliverable. I know because I used to hire a company to do all of this for me.
Now an AI agent does it in about 60 seconds for just $0.56 per run. And our Build Partner members can now resell this agent to clients!
Forensic-level financial clarity just became a drag-and-drop job, and the marketers who adopt it will run circles around the ones still quoting dashboard math.
What Landed In My Inbox
On July 2nd at 8:05pm, my Profit Dashboard Agent emailed me my June report. A designed HTML email, sleek as anything an agency ever sent me, built by the agent itself.
Here's what it told me:
- Gross revenue: $45,858
- Total expenses: $15,651
- Net revenue: $30,207
- Cost per lead: $9.87
- Earnings per lead: $10.19
- Cost per unique customer: $40.88
- Average order value: $416.89
Look at that EPL number against the CPL. Every lead I added in June cost me $9.87 and earned the business $10.19
I could NOT see that relationship before, because cost lived in one system, leads lived in another, and revenue lived in a third. The agent reads all three and does the math the dashboard never could.
To produce that report, my new Profit Dashboard Agent analyzed my ThriveCart transactions export, my Kit subscriber report, and my P&L statement. I dropped them into a form, hit Next, and in 7mins I had that email report you see in my inbox.
The agent did the work for me in 7mins for less than a DOLLAR!
No bookkeeper, no spreadsheet ritual, no messing with complicated dashboard tools. Just upload 3 docs and the magic happens.
Heck, I could even connect this agent to those 3 tools so it can pull the data for me monthly on autopilot!
I built this agent in MindStudio without writing a single line of code.
The agent has 3 main parts:
- Intake form where I upload my 3 exports
- The prompt I send to Claude Opus 4.6 to crunch all the numbers and design the HTML email dashboard
- An automation that sends the results to my inbox and files it in Gmail under my "Reports" label
